Stephen M. Preston

Dr. Preston has been an educator for over 40 years.  He has taught grades seven through college, been a middle school and high school principal and worked for the Georgia Department of Education.  He takes great pride in having taught in a public school or college for thirty-eight years, no matter his position.  In the Georgia DOE he directed the Research and Development Division and the Staff Development Division.  He led the DOE strategic planning process under two state superintendents.  He received the Distinguished Staff Developer Award from the Georgia Staff Development Council in 2003 for his leadership in transforming staff development in his state through the state adoption of the NSDC Professional Learning Standards and the statewide implementation of professional learning communities.  Dr. Preston has published numerous articles and contributed to several books, most recently a chapter in The Whole-Faculty Study Groups Fieldbook.
