Differentiating Instruction
When students enter the classroom, they come with a broad variety of backgrounds, skills, strengths, and learning styles. Teachers cannot possibly reach every student by using only one method of instruction. Differentiation is knowing the student and the subject and finding the best way to match the two. It is the key to ensuring that each student has the opportunity to learn and achieve. However, differentiation can seem like a daunting task because of the many differences in students and their learning styles. The School Improvement Network offers two programs to help you implement and practice differentiation in your schools: Differentiating Instruction to Meet the Needs of All Students and Applied Differentiation: Making it Work in the Classroom. All of our programs are focused on driving classroom implementation and increasing student learning.
Benefits of both our Differentiation Products:
Differentiating Instruction to Meet the Needs of All Students is designed to introduce the concept of differentiation in your schools.
Benefits of Differentiating Instruction:
Applied Differentiation: Making it Work in the Classroom is a more advanced follow-up to Differentiating Instruction and shows teachers how to actually implement differentiation in their classrooms.
Benefits of Applied Differentiation:
Both Differentiating Instruction to Meet the Needs of All Students and Applied Differentiation: Making it Work in the Classroom are designed for ongoing professional development. We know one-shot cures never work, which is why our programs provide many opportunities for follow-up to ensure that strategies become embedded in your schools. The programs include both Facilitator Packs and Teacher Implementation Packs. The Facilitator Pack is designed for ongoing group training and contains video training programs, as well as an Implementation Guide for the facilitator. The Teacher Implementation Packs are designed to ensure that the knowledge being taught in group training sessions becomes a reality in each individual classroom allowing for ongoing, individual study and follow-up with real classroom examples either online or via CD-ROM. By reinforcing the group training, strategies become job-embedded.
The greatest shortcoming of most professional development is the lack of follow-up and classroom implementation. At School Improvement Network, we work with you through every step of the process to ensure our products fit your needs and to ensure that real improvement is implemented in the classroom. All our products are fully designed for classroom implementation and are research-based and classroom-proven.
Compared to traditional, one-time workshops, the focused and ongoing training we offer in both Differentiating Instruction and Applied Differentiation is the most effective way that you can bring about teacher improvement and increase student achievement. Ongoing, focused training has a greater impact on student achievement than any other teacher characteristic besides the teacher's cognitive ability.

"This is the way professional development should happen. The real value of research-based instructional strategies is their application in the classroom every day. The Video Journals, with their accompanying materials, give teachers the opportunity to experience best practices in action" Robert Marzano, 2004 |
